An Anniversary to Remember
Jen and Max took their Vanna Van rental on a North Shore journey for their second anniversary, heading from Duluth all the way up to Canada through the Grand Portage Port of Entry.
Their route was packed with some of Minnesota’s most iconic stops.
They started with the views from Enger Park in Duluth, then made their way up the coast to the lighthouse in Two Harbors. Along the way, they stopped at the Rustic Inn Cafe near Castle Danger, a highlight not just for the views, but for what they called some of the best food on the trip.
The drive itself became part of the experience, cruising along the Gitchi-Gami State Trail with Lake Superior never far from sight.
Exploring the North Shore
As they continued north, the adventure only got better.
Black Beach in Silver Bay offered a unique and striking landscape, while Lutsen provided a completely different perspective with the Summit Express gondola. The views from the top gave them a chance to see the North Shore from above, something they highly recommend to anyone making the trip.
Further up the coast, they explored Grand Portage State Park, taking in waterfalls, spotting wildlife, and hiking through some of the most scenic trails in the region. They also visited the Grand Portage National Monument, adding a bit of history to the trip.
Gooseberry Falls State Park and the surrounding trail systems rounded out the journey, with plenty of opportunities for hiking and biking along the way.
Why It Worked
What made both of these trips stand out was not just the destinations, it was how they traveled.
Having everything in one place made it easy to move from stop to stop without stress. No packing and unpacking, no strict schedules, just the freedom to explore at their own pace.
The van became part of the experience. A place to relax, recharge, and keep the adventure going.
